		<title>Formulation-and-Evaluation-of-Paracetamol-Loaded-Mucoadhesive-Microspheres</title>

		<description>{<![CDATA[Objective: The present work is to formulate the mucoadhesive microspheres loaded Paracetamol using two different natural gums with an aim to increase the GI retention time, enhance bioavailability over prolonged period of time in the stomach and upper GIT and decreased GI side effect.Methods: Paracetamol mucoadhesive microspheres were formulated using sodium alginate, different concentration of Xanthan gum and Guar gum by ionic gelation technique. Six formulations were prepared and evaluated for relevant parameters.Results: Percentage yield is found between 52.34 +/- 0.58% to 84.21 +/- 0.21% in all formulations. The surface morphology of microspheres was characterized by SEM; it was discrete, spherical in shape and showed free flowing properties. The mean particle size of microspheres significantly increases and it was the range between 37.05 +/- 0.05 micrometer to 45.29 +/- 0.06 micrometer. Among all the formulations, XG-III showed a high entrapment efficiency is 94.80 +/- 0.54% and highest percentage sorption in distilled water is observed. The in-vitro drug release studies revealed that XG-III is controlled and found to be 77.04 +/- 0.22% at the end of the dissolution studies. The mechanism of drug release was evaluated using the linear regression coefficient. Stability studies of selected mucoadhesive microspheres showed good results. It could be also concluding that the all the formulations were shown satisfactory results and suitable for potential therapeutic uses.]]>}</description>

		<description>{<![CDATA[In this study, mosquito repellent and larvicidal activities of leaf extracts of Acalypha indica were investigated against Aedes aegypti. Leaf extracts of Acalypha indica was prepared using maceration, Soxhlet extraction, sonication and steam distillation. Hexane, acetone, ethyl acetate, methanol and water were used as solvents. Mosquito repellent activity was investigated using static air repellency apparatus. The highest mosquito repellent activities were obtained by maceration in hexane and sonication in ethyl acetate and they vary from 60% to 20% in a period of three hours. In order to determine the larvicidal activity, mosquito larvae were treated with each plant extract and percentage mortality of mosquito larvae was obtained within 24 h. Highest larvicidal activities (100% mortality) were given by sonicated leaf extract in water (100 mg mL-1) and Soxhlet leaf extract in acetone (97 mg mL-1). ]]>}</description>

		<description>{<![CDATA[Objective: The objective of the present study is to investigate the Anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity of Bixa orellana Linn. (Bixaceae) leaves. Methods: The dried leaf powder was subjected to successive Soxhlet extraction using petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol and water extracts were investigated for anti-inflammatory activity and analgesic activity in Wistar rats using standard methods. The acute toxicity studies are done and it gives that the animal is alive for 24 h up to 1000 mg/kg. The volume of hind paw is measured prior and after inducing the inflammation by using plethysmometer. The amount of inflammation in untreated animals and animals treated with test drugs was measured. Results: The results obtained revealed that the petroleum ether extract showed highest activity at dose level of 250 mg/kg at 2 h. If the inflammation in the treated animals is less than that in untreated animals, then the drug is considered to possess anti-inflammatory activity when compare to standard drug, Diclofenac sodium and arachis oil as vehicle and control for the extract. The analgesic activity of various extracts of leaves of Bixa orellana was evaluated by tail immersion method. The results revealed that maximum activity was showed by methanolic extract (12.4 sec) at a dose of 500 mg/kg at 120 min after administration.]]>}</description>

Seven days after acclimatization the rats were divided into seven groups (I-IX), each group consisting of six animals. All animals were kept on same diet for 7 days. The results showed that the Methanolic extract was found to be more potent as hepatoprotective than the reaming extracts of the Bixa orellana leaves.]]>}</description>

		<description>{<![CDATA[Objective:  The Urinary tract is one of the most common source for life threatening infection.  A broad range of organisms may be isolated. Various antibiotics are used for the treatment but rising resistance among pathogenic organisms is one major concern in choosing effective treatment option. The main objective of the study was to check the efficacy and safety of nitrofurantoin (100 mg BD dose) for five days in cases of acute lower UTI.Material and MethodsStudy design: open label, single arm study. Study population: Seventy patients presenting with clinical symptoms of urinary tract infection were selected which were further confirmed by urine culture in the microbiology department.  Protocol: Urine culture and sensitivity testing for nitrofurantoin was done. After confirmation of the causative organism and sensitivity testing patients were prescribed nitrofurantoin (100 mg BD) for five days and were told to revisit the OPD on 7th day. Urine culture was repeated to see the bacterial eradication rate.Results: Sensitivity reported to nitrofurantoin is 84.3%. Among all the pathogenic organisms highest sensitivity was shown by Proteus (87.5%), followed by E. coli (84.7%), Staphylococcus aureus (83.3%), Klebsiella (70%). The bacterial eradication rate is 91.5%.]]>}</description>
